PIN Authentication Systems
The PersonalisedPIN solution options enable banks to build a specialised PIN processing environment. Careful consideration is required to select the best PIN management strategy to maintain usability and availability (both domestic and overseas) without incurring unnecessary additional processing fees.
The method of authentication is the most central decision for PersonalisedPIN's overall PINning environment, system architecture and integration. Both options offer in-branch and remote card PINning.
There two primary methods for PIN authentication:
Both PIN on Card (i.e. encrypted PVV) and PIN-on-Host authentication systems are valid systems with their respective positive and negative attributes. PersonalisedPIN also offers a Hybrid Authentication System which has the best aspects of both methodologies.

PIN on Card / PVV on Card
The PVV data required for authentication is stored on the Magnetic Stripe and in the 'Magnetic Stripe Image' that is part of the EMV Chip data.PIN on Host
The data required for authentication is 'off-card' and typically stored in a PVV validation file in an issuing bank’s card processing and management system. During a transaction the PVV for the entered PINs is validated server-side where it is stored. This enables flexible PIN selection options such as remote PINning. Both PIN on Card (i.e. encrypted PVV) and PIN-on-Host authentication systems are valid systems with their respective positive and negative attributes. System Architecture
The system includes a DC420™ Controller with a patented Unified Command Structure (UCS) that integrates disparate devices into a control system environment, from which the devices can be shared.
Sharing reduces the total cost of ownership by maximising device utilisation. Whilst the DC420 controller is device agnostic, we do recommend “best of breed” secure card encoder and encrypting PCI certified PINPad equipment.
